RLTune Product Explainer Video

▶ Humanizing Innovation: The RLTune Explainer
Some talk the talk; we prefer to walk it. When RLCore assigned us to design a product explainer video, we took the “show, don’t tell” approach to create maximum impact

Objective
The Project Background
RLCore, a Canada-based deep-tech startup, entrusted us to design a product explainer video for their RL-powered solution, RLTune. RLTune is a reinforcement learning model that continuously adapts to changing conditions and helps industrial process plants optimize their consumption and maintain output quality.
The Goal
Our goal was to create a product explainer video that would connect RLTune to its ideal users. Our core objective was to build a narrative that would resonate with the audience on a deeper, more human level.
The Challenge
Our primary challenge was to humanize the RLTune. We were required to explain the deep-tech solution in a way that would appeal to human sensibilities. We needed to build a narrative that would allow the audience to visualize the impact of using RLTune.

▶ Designing a Visual Narrative That Brings the Product Closer to the Customer

Insight
The human mind seeks visibility. When we talk about a problem that certain people face daily, it makes them feel represented, seen, and heard. Thus, making it easy for them to relate to a solution on a personal level. We used this insight to determine the creative route we wanted to take for the RLTune explainer video.
The Idea
The idea was simple; we decided to showcase a plant operator on a regular day. This “day in a life” approach helped us weave a story that felt real, lived in, and emotionally invested in the people it is talking about.
▶ Impact Delivered
Execution
The Story
RLCore’s philosophy of “keeping humans in the loop” guided us to build a narrative that centred people and not the technology.
Our story provided an insight into the life and problems the plant operators face every day. Showcasing the problems while setting the scene allowed us to follow the problem-agitation-solution framework, as we introduced RLTune as the ultimate solution.
We described RLTune’s USPs further by showcasing its ability to continuously adapt to changing conditions and optimize output quality while staying within the guardrails. We juxtaposed the visuals of thelife of a plant operator before and after using RLTune, creating a before-and-after bridge.
The Visual Style
For the visual style, we wanted to keep things clean and concise. The technical information was broken down into visual cues, allowing the audience to understand the workings of the product visually. We used clean diagrams and engineering drawings to establish trust and authority over the domain.
The use of motion on the data charts and architectural designs made explaining complex factors visually engaging. This minimalistic yet unique visual style allowed us to design an explainer that was informative yet visually appealing for the target audience.
The Process
We aspired to a 2D motion graphic style to create the explainer video. The process included developing the assets and stitching them together into an easy-flowing motion film. We designed every frame with precision. Each of these frames included specific visual details that helped us progress the story smoothly and effectively.
The motion design process also included interpreting multiple technical concepts and developing appropriate visual cues for them. We worked closely with the product team of RLCore to get a breakthrough in designing the visual cues to explain the complex technical aspects of RLTune.
